Turning Outside Spigots Off and On

The shut off valves for the outside bibbs (AKA spigots, outdoor faucets) are clearly marked and can be found either by the hot water heater, under the kitchen sink, or under the bath vanity.  There should be one valve for each spigot thus if you have two spigots, you should have two valves.  The valves may not be in the same place.  You could have one by the water heater and one under a sink.  It varies by unit.

When preparing for freezing weather, disconnect any attached hoses.  Shut off the valves.  After you shut off the valves, turn on the outside spigots to make sure any water remaining in the pipe is drained. Then turn the spigot back off.  This will prevent freezing pipes which could burst.

Once warmer weather returns, just turn the valves back on.
